Richard Cœur de Lion
Richard I raises his sword from horseback outside the House of Lords. First shown in clay at the Great Exhibition of 1851, the bronze survived the Blitz with a bent sword — kept unrepaired for a time as a symbol of democracy bending but not breaking.
