Charles I
The oldest bronze equestrian statue in Britain, and the official centre of London — all distances to the capital are measured from this spot. After the King's execution the statue was sold to a metalsmith for scrap; he secretly buried it, sold souvenirs supposedly cast from it, and produced it intact at the Restoration.
