Statesmen & Leaders
Nelson Mandela
Mandela stands mid-speech with arms outstretched, in the flowered shirt he favoured over statesman's tailoring. He attended the unveiling himself, recalling that when he first visited London in 1962 he and Oliver Tambo had joked about whether a Black leader would ever stand among the square's statesmen.
