Peter the Great
In 1698 the Tsar of Russia lived incognito in Deptford to learn shipbuilding in the royal dockyard (and famously wrecked John Evelyn's garden with a wheelbarrow). This eccentric memorial — a spindly Peter flanked by a dwarf courtier and a cannon — was Russia's tercentenary gift to the borough.
